
Nagpur: Veteran politician and noted educationist Datta Meghe was consigned to flames with full State honours at Paonar in Wardha district on Monday, marking the end of an era in Maharashtra’s political and educational landscape.
The last rites were performed by family members, including former MLA Sagar Meghe, MLA Sameer Meghe and Raghav Meghe, who offered prayers and lit the funeral pyre amid an atmosphere of grief and respect.
A host of prominent dignitaries paid their final respects to the departed leader. Among those present were Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Guardian Minister Dr Pankaj Bhoyar, Minister of State Adv Ashish Jaiswal, MLA Charan Thakur, Congress leader Nana Patole, MLC Abhijit Wanjari, former minister Rajendra Mulak, MLA Sameer Kunawar and MLA Rajesh Bakane, along with senior administrative officials and leaders from across party lines.
A large number of social workers, industrialists and citizens also gathered at the cremation site to bid farewell. Many paid rich tributes, remembering Meghe as a visionary leader who dedicated his life to public service and the advancement of education.
Family members present on the occasion included his wife Shalinitai Meghe, sons Sagar and Sameer Meghe, daughters Smita Dharkar and Sangeeta Grover, daughters-in-law Devika Meghe and Vrinda Meghe, along with other relatives and grandchildren, all mourning the loss of a towering personality.
