Nagpur: The Mahavidhi Law Students Association, Nagpur District Committee, strongly protested the brutal murders of a lawyer couple — Adv Rajaram Adhav of Rahuri Taluka of Ahmednagar District and his wife Manisha Adhaav, sending shockwaves across Maharashtra.
Terming the murders as an atrocity, the Mahavidhi Law Students Association sent a letter to the District Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar demanding to enforce the Advocate Protection Act for the protection of the advocates in the whole Maharashtra state. Last week, the advocate couple from Rahuri in Ahmednagar district was tortured and killed by five men, who had apparently demanded Rs 5 lakh from the victims. The bodies were later dumped in a well.
It is noteworthy that the Rajasthan Government has passed the Advocate Protection Act for lawyers in the Rajasthan Assembly on March 21, 2023. Mahavidhi Law Students Association is also demanding that the Advocate Protection Act should be implemented in the state of Maharashtra like the one done in Rajasthan State.
On this occasion, District Vice President Arshad Khan, College Secretary Praful Rathod, Swayam Mankar, Prajwal Vairagade and other students were present.
“This massacre in Rahuri town has spread sensation in the entire state. There is a lot of dissatisfaction among the lawyers due to this incident. This incident has raised a question mark on law and order in the state. There has been a sudden increase in crimes against lawyers in India in the last few years. Keeping this in mind, on March 21, 2023, the Rajasthan State Assembly passed the “Rajasthan Advocate Protection Bill” in amended form to prevent violence against lawyers.
Similarly, in the state of Maharashtra also, it is necessary to implement the Advocate Protection Act as soon as possible. Similarly, protection should be ensured through the Advocate Protection Act so that advocates can perform their duties without fear of such harassment and intimidation. If the Advocate Protection Act comes into force, lawyers will have some protection against assault, grievous hurt, criminal force and intimidation,” said Rajat Lanjewar, Nagpur District President Mahavidhi Law Students Association.
