Illegal Water Connection: Now, NMC-OCW to lodge FIR for damaging water pipeline

Beware! or ready to face FIR under relevant section 379 of IPC ( Water Theft), Section 336 (Danger to Public Life) and Section 3 & 7 (Damages to Public Property Act) of IPC, especially, those who are planning to fetch water without legal water connection or people who are deliberately fetching water supply by damaging main supply lines, feeder mains etc.

After giving opportunities and reminders several times earlier, now the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Orange City Water (OCW) have decided to lodge such FIR’s against persons involved in water theft and damages to public property.

In one such case that occurred at Hansapuri, Main Road area recently wherein some unidentified persons tried to illegally connect few house service connections with 36 inch main supply line and in that bid damaged the pipeline. This illegal act has not only damaged the main supply line nut also created threat for nearby people because of underground high tension power supply lines.

A special team of NMC & OCW visited site on Jan 23, morning to assess the situation and damages made by unidentified people in bid to create illegal connections on main supply line. Later in the afternoon an official police complaint (FIR) was lodged at Tehsil Police Station against the unidentified person who tried to damage the main supply line.

Tehsil Police has registered offences Section 379 of IPC (Water Theft), Section 336 (Danger to Public Life) and Section 3 & 7 (Damages to Public Property Act) of IPC. Earlier too, NMC-OCW had registered FIR’s at various police stations under relevant section for damaging the public property Act in similar kind of cases.

It must be mentioned here, having an authorized/registered water connection is a matter of pride for every citizen. NMC and OCW officials have requested the citizens of Nagpur to co-operate and get their connections regularized.
