IIM to come up in MIHAN-SEZ, HRD team inspect the proposed Land

Nagpur: It is final now. The prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM) would be set up in Mihan-SEZ on 200-acre land. The IIM Nagpur would be the first IIM in Maharashtra.

The team from Union human resource development (HRD) ministry, which inspected the proposed land for the IIM Nagpur on Wednesday, expressed satisfaction over its visit. The HRD team inspected the temporary facility at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) and the proposed 200-acre-land at Mihan SEZ. The team is expected to submit its report to the ministry between March15-30, 2015. The ministry is likely to give its nod very soon.

Admissions for the post-graduate programme in management will begin from the academic session 2015-16. The visiting HRD team is headed by additional secretary in the Union HRD ministry, Amarjit Singh and comprises director of IIM Ahmedabad, Ashish Nand, principal secretary, higher and technical education, Dr Sanjay Chahande and chief engineer, CPWD, Narendra Kumar.

iim-nagpurDivisional commissioner Anoop Kumar, district collector Abhishek Krishna and chairman of VNIT, Vishram Jamdar also accompanied the HRD team. Joint director, directorate of technical education (DTE), Nagpur, Gulabrao Thakre was the coordinator of the team.

For now, the IIM Nagpur will function from two buildings on VNIT campus. The arrangement has been worked out till the independent building of IIM comes up at Mihan-Sez, The facilities available in VNIT were found to be appropriate for the IIM.
