The Society today is a knowledge seeking society and those only those who tend to be “Life Long Learners” will survive in this competitive world! With this spirit in mind, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Nagpur Regional Centre has been organizing awareness-cum-Admission Camps for different sections of the society and in collaboration with various organizations. One such camp was recently held at Indian Air Force (IAF)-Maintenance Command, Head Quarters Nagpur. This camp was meant for Air Warriors, Civilians and their families.

The Admission camp was inaugurated by IGNOU Regional Director Dr P Sivaswaroop and Command Education Officer, Air Force Maintenance Command Group Captain G J Rao. While inaugurating the camp, Dr Sivaswaroop said that ‘Learning Ladder’ has no last step and one can continue learning, irrespective of their social, economical and physical conditions. He cited various examples of aged learners, senior officers, tribal women and student prisoners.

Group Captain Rao advised all those present at the camp to utilize this opportunity made available at their door step. He thanked IGNOU for organizing this special camp.

Assistant Regional Directors Dr Vikas Singhal and Dr Nurul Hasan and other staff members of IGNOU and Education Unit of IAF were present.

During the admission camp, all the details related to various programmes offered by IGNOU for July 2015 Admission Cycle were provided to the aspirants. It was conducted as a Single Window for all IGNOU admission activities. Starting from Pre-Admission Counselling, Sale of Forms, Admission Guidance, Admission Finalization, issuance of Identity Card and study material, were provided in this Camp.

Many warriors and their families contacted IGNOU enquiring for courses of their choice and also which may offer job/placement for them, after their retirement. More enquiries were made for Psychology, MBA, French language, Poultry Farming etc.

In conclusion, Dr Sivaswaroop expressed his heartfelt thanks to Air Marshal Jagjeet Singh, VSM, AO C-in-C and Air-Vice Marshal Praveen Bhatt, VSM, SAASO, Maintenance Command, Head Quarters for their guidance and help. He said that such Camps will be held at other Defence Organizations also to facilitate them to acquire their higher/chosen education.

He further said that with IGNOU’s National Net work, the Defence personnel can continue their studies without disruption, even after their postings to anywhere in the Country.
