“All credit goes to Congress workers in making me a leader, and subsequently the City Congress President by the High Command. The party candidates lost last Assembly elections in the city by the follies committed by the Congressmen even though Nagpur being the fortress of Congress from the beginning. I know the strength of every Congress leader and would try to utilize the strength unitedly for making the party candidates victorious in Lok Sabha and Assembly elections as well,” the newly appointed Nagpur City Congress Committee (NCCC) President Vikas Thakre asserted.

The newly appointed Nagpur City Congress Committee (NCCC) President Vikas Thakre, who was accorded a rousing welcome by hundreds of Congress leaders and workers on his arrival in city from Mumbai, said that he has been bestowed with the thorny crown (challenging responsibility) but he will change it into a golden one by successfully meeting the challenge of upcoming Lok Sabha elections, roared Vikas Thakre while addressing Congressmen at Devadia Bhavan. The new City Congress chief was speaking after taking the charge of the coveted post on Friday.

“All credit goes to Congress workers in making me a leader, and subsequently the City Congress President by the High Command. The party candidates lost last Assembly elections in the city by the follies committed by the Congressmen even though Nagpur being the fortress of Congress from the beginning. I know the strength of every Congress leader and would try to utilize the strength unitedly for making the party candidates victorious in Lok Sabha and Assembly elections as well,” Thakre asserted.

Vikas Thakre further said, “If the Congress leaders in general and workers in particular stand behind me like a rock, no Opposition party would be able to defeat Congress candidates. The leaders like Muttemwar and Chaturvedi should trust their workers and supporters during the time of elections. There is nothing wrong in learning lessons from BJP. Whoever be the party candidate, the BJP workers strive hard for victory of the candidate in any election,” the new NCCP Chief said.

“The party (BJP) that could not handle the NMC properly, talks only big. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Anjali Damania, who is making charges-countercharges about NMC today, we have been doing the same for the past 4-5 years. I have been associated with Congress since 1985 and struggled hard for moving forward. The workers have played the crucial role in my every success. The Congress gave credence to me after fighting elections as an Independent candidate for NMC Corporator. I fought NMC elections from three different places and emerged victorious, too,” Vikas Thakre said.

“The leaders seated on the dais should give importance to the workers. If the leaders bring 15-20 workers with them, it would be miracle for Congress in the city. In Congress, the leaders have to move forward on their individual strength. I have no “Godfather” in the party. I succeeded on my own. The party should field capable leaders in the next elections so that I could point out mistakes of local leaders,” Thakre said.

The programme was attended by almost all leaders except Nitin Raut and Anees Ahmed.
