Nagpur: On one hand while the Centre, the State and the local civic body is running plantation drives to maintain the environment, irresponsible citizens in the city are found to be doing the reversing act by felling huge trees in their areas. A similar incident came to notice in the premises of Shri Krishna Apartment at Mecosabagh on Monday.

Sunny Sharma, a resident of the apartment, informed that around a dozen trees of mango, lemon and guava were felled in the building premises without prior permission from the society and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). The trees were 30-35 years old and around 40 feet tall.

It was informed that on the call of a resident, around a dozen people came and cut the trees within an hour’s time. Till the time other residents assembled at the place, the tree-fellers ran away with half of the wood. When the resident protested, the action was stopped and the remaining wood is still lying in the premises.

The alert citizens filed a complained with Jaripatka police station and NMC’s department concerned. When the NMC officials visited the person, on whose call the trees were felled, his family informed that he was not at home. The society residents have demanded strict action in the case.
