Nagpur:
MIDC police on Tuesday booked a woman’s husband and in-laws on the charges of abetting her suicide over dowry money demand.

According to police, Swati Vikas Gautam (30), resident of Mahajanwadi, near Palkar Sabhagruha, Hingna Road, committed suicide between 7 and 7.40 pm on Tuesday (April 25) by hanging to a ceiling fan with the help of an odhni. Initially, cops registered a case of accidental death and launched a probe.

During the investigation and a complaint lodged by mother of Swati, Sushma Dhansingh Gaur (55) of Hinganghat, it came to the fore that Swati had married Vikas Vijaysingh Gautam (30). However, just after a month after their marriage, her husband Vikas, father-in-law Vijaysingh Gautam (55) and mother-in-law Uma Vijaysingh Gautam (50) started torturing Swati, mentally and physically, over dowry demand. Fed up with the harassment, Swati ended her life by hanging.
