Tension ran high at Government-run hostel of Institute of Science when a group of hooligans stormed the hostel in the intervening night of Thursday and Friday and created ruckus and damaged property over rivalry with inmate students. The marauders pelted stones on the windows of the hostel and also attacked some of the students. Three students have reportedly received injuries. Police have succeeded in arresting three attackers.

According to the reports, some of the students had on late Thursday night objected to the group of 10-12 persons of nearby area having a liquor party near the hostel premises. In fact the liquor party was routine affair. But since the students were making preparations for the coming Ganesh festivity, they confronted the group of hooligans and warned them to stop liquor parties just behind the hostel premises. This warning had led to a scuffle between the students and the anti-social elements. However, after a while, the hooligans returned to hostel late in the night and started pelting stones on glass windows. The noise woke up the students and they barged out to see what was happening. The inmates found the hooligans led by Golu Dehanwar, Vicky Vaishya, and Shetty indulging in stone pelting. What followed was free for all and as a result three students namely Mehul Kosurkar, Rahul Rathod and other unidentified were injured with Mehul receiving head injury and two broken ribs. Other students informed Sitabuldi police about the incident. The cops immediately reached the spot and arrested the three of the accused. Police are investigating into the matter further. However, the inmates are in state of fear with lack of security facility in the hostel. The hostel authorities, after the incident, are said to have assured to increase security in the hostel premises.
