Holi turned into Hell : Accidents claim 11 lives, injure 8 others in Nagpur

Nagpur News: Come Holi and suddenly the number of accidents shot up.

The festival of colours brought smiles on many faces on Wednesday but the same festival left families of a dozen of people engulfed in sadness, pain and agony. The colour of Holi was high on some people which resulted in a number of accidents on Wednesday. Around 11 people lost their lives while 8 are still struggling for their lives in the series of accidents that took place on Wednesday.

In the first incidence, a Scorpio car dashed into a Maruti car claiming life of one and injuring three in the accident that took place on Tuesday late night on the Gowari Flyover. Sources said, Happy Antariksha Mishra (28), a resident of Rajat Plaza Complex was going from Gowari Flyover with his friends Amar Duranna Mulge (19) and Kaushik Patel in his Maruti car (MH 31 AH 4800). A speeding white Scorpio (MH 12 Dm 3007) came from the wrong side of the flyover and dashed into the Maruti car. The impact was so powerful that Happy Mishra was died on the spot while Amar and Kaushik were badly injured in the accident. The driver of the killer Scorpio car Rajesh Dadarao Moraskar (32), a resident of Hinganghat also sustained injuries. Sitabuldi police have registered an offence against Rajesh and arrested him.

In the second accident, in a head-on collision between two two-wheelers, one person died on the spot while another was seriously injured. According to Police, Badal Harisingh Thakur (25), a resident of Kapil Nagar, Manewada Road, was on his Yamaha bike (MH 31 DN 7255) while Narendra Purchand Parihaar, a resident of Amba Nagar, was on his Honda bike (MH 31 CE 35). Both the bikers were riding their bikes and a very high speed and could control their bikes and dashed into each other at Manewada-Besa Road. Narendra Parihaar died on the spot while Badal was seriously injured. He was sent to Government Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Ajni Police registered an offence against both bikers.

In another incident, a father was left shock stricken when doctors declared his blood soaked seven-year-old son ‘brought dead’ on Wednesday. According to police, Rajendra Mahadev Kukde (40), a resident of Ramna Maroti, Nandanvan, was going with his seven-year-old boy Aniket on his Splendor bike (MH 31 AR 7275). An uncontrolled and speeding Qwalis car (MH 31 AG 7894) came from behind and hit the motorcycle at Nehru Nagar. Both father-son duo were seriously injured in accident. They were rushed to Gaikwad Hospital where doctors declared Aniket ‘brought dead’. Sakkardara police have registered an offence against the car driver.

Adding to the series of accidents, an unidentified vehicle hit a motorcycle and killed two youths. According to police, Vikas Deepak Gajbhiye (26) and Rupesh Sanjaysingh Bharadwaj (26), a resident of Kumbhar Toli were going on their Hero Passion motorcycle (MH 31 DB 8690). Near Lucky White Marbel shop, Bagadganj Road, Kumbhar Toli, an unidentified vehicle hit their motorcycle. On being informed, Nandanvan Police reached the spot and Vikas and Rupesh were sent to Government Medical College and Hospital for treatment. They succumbed to their injuries during treatment. The ‘killer’ vechile driver escaped the spot. Cops registered an accidental death and are investigating the case.

In a heart rendering accident, a speeding car crushed mothers-on duo to death under the jurisdiction of Sakkardar Police Station on Wednesday. Police said, Nilesh Mahajan and his mother Nirmala Mahajan were going on his Honda motorcycle (MH 36 J 2909). A speeding Indica car (MH 31 BB 4555) hit the motorcycle near Sagura Chicken Centre, Chhota Tajabad. The mother-son duo died on the spot. Sakkardara police registered an offence against the car driver as Rajendra Kawle.

In another fatal accident, a speeding truck knocked a motorcyclist dead under Gittikhadan Police Station area on Wednesday. Sources said, Praveen Sayam (29), a resident of Ambazari Tekdi, was going on his motorcycle (MH 31 CQ 7769). Near Gorewada Ring Road Square, a speeding truck (MH 15 CQ 5374) hit Praveen and badly injured him. Fearing arrest, the truck driver fled the spot leaving Praveen in a pool of blood. On being informed, Gittikhadan Police reached the spot and sent Praveen for medical treatment. Doctors declared him ‘brought dead’. Cops have registered an offence against the truck driver.

In yet another mishap, an uncontrolled truck hit a two-wheeler killing one on the spot and seriously injuring the other. According to the information, a speeding truck (GJ 23 W 8301) dashed into a motorcycle (MH 31 W 2135) at Chikhli Square and killed one and injured another. The truck driver Sonu Mahendrakumar Bajirao (28), a native of Bhorsad, District Anand, Gujarat, was coming on a very high speed. He could not control the speed and hit the motorcycle of Meghraj Mahadev Nehare (24), a resident of Teldoh, Taluka Selu, Wardha and Ramesh Bhaurao Sontakke (35), a resident of Selu,. Meghraj was killed on the spot while Ramesh sustained serious injuries. Passerby informed the police and immediately sent Ramesh for treatment to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital. Kalamna Police arrested the truck driver and registered an offence under Sections 279, 304 (A), 337, 427 and Sub sections 134 and 177 of the IPC.

A person was killed and another was seriously injured in a head-on collision between two two-wheelers in another incident. Sources said, Pradeep Ramesh Ramteke (23), a resident of Imambada, Panchnal Square, and his friend Arush alias Raju Potpose (20), a resident of Imambada were going to P{radeep’s uncle’s house on Wednesday on their motorcycle (MH 31 DF 2694). A speeding two-wheeler came from front and dashed into the bike of Pradeep near Gargoti Road, Noor Nagar, in front of Matruchhaya Clinic, Hudkeshwar. The impact was so drastic that it Arush was killed on the spot and Pradeep sustained deep injuries. The ‘killer’ two-wheeler rider sped the spot fearing arrest. On being informed, cops reached the spot and performed the panchnama, Pradeep was sent to hospital for treatment. On the complaint of Pradeep, Hudkeshwar cops have registered an offence against unidentified rider under Sections 279, 338, 304 (a) and Sub Sections 134 and 177 of the IPC.

In yet another ghastly accident, a speeding four-wheeler knocked dead a motorcyclist and seriously injured another on Wednesday. According to information, Surendra Sunderlal Chaturvedi (32), a resident of Plot No. 5, Sevadal Nagar, Manewada Main Road, was going to his maternal uncle’s house with his friend Deepak Ramavtar Singh (37) on his Hero Honda Splendor bike (MH 31 AZ 9152). In front of Ramesh Kirana Stores, Besa, Hudkeshwar, a speeding four-wheeler coming from the wrong side hit the motorcycle killing Deepak on the spot while Surendra was seriously injured in the accident. Fearing arrest, the four-wheeler driver fled the spot. On the complaint of Surendra, Hudkeshwar police have registered an offence under Sections 279, 337, 304 (a) and sub Sections 134 and 177 of the IPC.
