High Court upholds judgment of Additional Sessions Court: Awards double life-term to Kush killer

The High Court on June 22, 2015, upheld the judgment of Additional Sessions Court Judge G J Akarte in Nagpur and sentenced the key perpetrator of macabre murder of 8-year old Kush Kataria named Aayush Puglia, to two life imprisonments. The High Court having heard the council for the accused rejected the writ petition of Aayush Pugalia and sentenced him to two life terms.

It could be mentioned here that eight-year old Kush Kataria, son of Nagpur’s famous industrialist Prashant Kataria, was kidnapped by Aayush Puglia with the help of his two brothers who resided in front of Kataria house on October 11, 2011. The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of Rs 2 crore and had warned the parents that if their demand was not met they will eliminate Kush. However, since they were not receiving the ransom amount the culprits hid Kush at different places. The desperate trio finally ended the sensational episode by strangulating Kush to death and dumped his body in a tank somewhere in city.

Nagpur police, after sustained efforts, arrested the offenders Aayush, Navin and Nitin. The police filed the charge-sheet in the Sessions Court. The incident of kidnapping and later brutal murder of Kush Kataria had enraged Nagpurians were anxiously awaiting the judgment.
