Nagpur — The Nagpur Bench of the High Court has taken a strict stand against Janata Shikshan Prasarak Mandal and Babasaheb Naik College of Engineering for failing to comply with court orders regarding salary arrears and allowances owed to their employees. The court has now directed the Yavatmal District Collector to furnish details of the immovable properties of those held in contempt.

The issue arose after employees of Babasaheb Naik College of Engineering filed a writ petition in the High Court demanding implementation of the 6th and 7th Pay Commission recommendations, along with the release of pending dearness allowances. Despite earlier court orders directing the trust and the college to make these payments, there was no compliance, leading the court to initiate contempt proceedings on its own.

Court May Consider Auctioning Properties

In its latest order, the court instructed that a detailed report be submitted by June 10, noting that the trustees’ and the institution’s properties may be auctioned to recover dues. The court also warned that if the orders continue to be ignored, it may consider imprisonment of the contemnors after the next hearing.

Previously, on February 18, 2025, the court had noted that its July 10, 2023 order had not been properly implemented. The secretary of the college had submitted an affidavit stating that the society intended to sell off some of its assets to clear the dues, but there has been no visible progress on this front.
