High-alert sounded, Nagpur City under thick security blanket to foil terror attacks on I-Day

With Independence Day round the corner, the Intelligence agencies and ATS, too, have gone on alert mode and are keeping sharp eyes over the movement of every citizen at malls, multiplexes, theatres, hotels, and other places where citizens celebrate the I-Day with much fanfare.

Nagpur News: With Independence Day round the corner, Nagpur police have sounded a high alert in the Second Capital to foil any designs of extremist outfits in carrying out their nefarious activities. The Orange City is dotted with policemen at every major places and places of importance apart from crowded centers. The Intelligence agencies and ATS, too, have gone on alert mode and are keeping sharp eyes over the movement of every citizen at malls, multiplexes, theatres, hotels, and other places where citizens celebrate the I-Day with much fanfare.

The mock drill at Nagpur Airport on Thursday to defuse a “bomb” by BDDS and the CISF personnel was the part of the high alert to test the alertness of security personnel.

The Intelligence agencies have tipped of the entire police force and other security agencies of the country of possible terror attacks to mar Independence Day celebrations. The Secret Agency’s tip off follows arrest of two armed terrorists in Mumbai. The Intelligence agencies have positive inputs that the mastermind of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, Hafeez Sayeed, may give a deadly shape to his plot to carry out terror attacks in major cities of India. The cities include National Capital, Mumbai, Nagpur Pune, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and other cities.

The sounding of high alert in Nagpur could be gauged from the fact that all the leaves of policemen have been withold till further orders and those who are on leave have been asked to report for duties.The sensitive areas have been under the surveillance of how-eyed security forces. Every vehicle passing through check posts is being thoroughly frisked.

The Joint Commissioner of Police Sanjay Saxena has issued orders barring the parking of any unathorised vehicle in front of Hotel Pride,  Airport, Dr Hedgewar Smruti Smarak. On the other hand, at other places, the vehicles would be allowed to park at parking places only.

The following places have been placed under watertight security:

1)      Nagpur International Airport

2)      Nagpur Railway Station and Bus Station

3)      RSS Headquarters

4)      Deekshabhumi

5)      Major religious places

6)      Crowded place

Meanwhile, talking to media, the Nagpur Police Commissioner K K Pathak has expressed his confidence that the celebrations of Independence Day would pass peacefully. “City police and other security agencies have been adequately been deployed in every corner of the Second Capital. Citizens should celebrate the I-Day with gaiety and fervor. Security has been in place,” the topmost police boss asserted.
