Heavy rains trigger flash floods in Satna, Army team begins rescue ops

08satnaSatna: Heavy rains have triggered flash floods in Satna, Madhya Pradesh.

An Army team is on site to carry out rescue operations.

Satna District Magistrate Naresh Pal on Thursday said “around 1300 people” had been rescued and provided accommodation in relief camps.

According to weather monitoring site Skymet, in span of 20 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Satna recorded 270 mm of rainfall. The city has already recorded whopping 460 mm of rain in first seven days of the month itself.

From June 1 to July 6, 23 districts of Madhya Pradesh have recorded above normal rains causing flooding and water logging. In Satna district, flood waters inundated houses in some localities of Amar Patan area and Pahadi Kheda village trapping five farmers in flood waters. Local police and officials eventually rescued them.
