The unidentified complainant’s wife was elected as Chairperson of Priyadarshini Multipurpose Cooperative Credit Society Ltd, Saoner, District Nagpur.

According to the Society’s rules, it is mandatory for the elected Chairperson to remit Rs 25,000 as security deposit within stipulated period. But the wife of complainant deposited the money late. Citing this reason, the accused Nitin Manikrao Bajad (42), Head Clerk in the office Assistant Registrar, Saoner, told the complainant that his wife could be removed the post.

To avoid this action the accused Head Clerk demanded Rs 5000 bribe from the complainant. Taken aback by the demand, the complainant approached the ACB, Nagpur.

Acting on the complaint, the ACB sleuths laid a trap at office of Assistant Registrar, Saoner and found that the Head Clerk Bajad indeed demanded Rs 5000 bribe and showed his readiness to accept it. With the eyewitness account and the complaint, the ACB sleuths booked the accused Head Clerk under Prevention of Corruption Act 1988. Further probe is underway.
