Nagpur: In a novel idea, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has launched a contest to invite ideas from citizens for making Nagpur a ‘Smart City’. Municipal commissioner Shravan Hardikar said that the contest ‘Idea Challenge’ will be open from August 12 to 27.
Looking at the current situation of the Second Capital, it appears that the city planners have not done their job properly. Now, citizens have a golden opportunity to pitch their ideas and become the brand ambassadors of this future smart city.
Citizens should log on to www.smartcitynagpur.com. The details are mentioned in the site. Mayor Pravin Datke told media persons that the candidates whose ideas will be considered, will become brand ambassadors of the city. Suggestions can come from any quarter of the society. The interested persons can connect with the project through e-mail and various other platforms on the social networking sites.
Other than Nagpur, the municipal corporations of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad too have launched similar contests. Ideas have been invited in two basic categories. One for the ‘Pan city initiative’, which must touch the lives of citizens. It can be a suggestion on areas like water, street-lights, lakes, roads, etc.
The second category is an area-based development plan. This category is aimed at transforming a specific place within the city. The specific place may be a model road, model garden or a popular lake or river front or a bazaar.
