Nagpur: Additional Director General of Police (Prisons) Meera Borwankar arrived in Nagpur city to conduct a High-level enquiry into the escape of the five dreaded criminals from Nagpur Central Prison in the wee hours on March 31, 2015.
After conducting a detailed investigation into the jail-break, which ADGP Meera Borwankar started early in the morning and which lasted till 8:00 pm in the evening, she exited from the Nagpur Central Prison.
While speaking to the media personnel, ADGP Meera Borwankar said that gross mismanagement and irregularities abounded in the Nagpur Central Jail premises during the tenure of Superintendent of Prison Vaibhav Kamble. At the moment Superintendent of Prison Vaibhav Kamble has been suspended.
ADGP Meera Borwankar also claimed that she will be sending a detailed report to the State Government. She added that prima facie it appears that many irregularities in the Central Jail have resulted in the escape of the dreaded criminals from the jail.

While speaking exclusively to Nagpur Today, Constable Vijay Gawai, who is a prison official, claimed that there is a well inside the Jail premises. If one cleans the well and removes the contents, one can easily find as many as two gunny bags full of destroyed mobile phones. He claimed this could be as many as 2000 to 5000 mobile phones. He went on to challenge the authorities that if the well is indeed cleaned and they do not find the destroyed mobile phones, he is ready to bear any punishment which the authorities may deem fit. Vijay Gawai went on to add that there are as many as 500 to 1000 mobile phones still inside the jail among the prisoners.
Vijay Gawai made another startling revelation. He claimed that for Rs 10,000/- (Ten Thousand), one can enjoy a birthday party, mutton party. This is for a certain number of prisoners. If the number of prisoners who will be taking part in the party increases, the amount goes up and can gop upto as high as Rupees One Lakh. One can also get a new mobile phone inside the jail premises for Rs 10,000/-. Vijay Gawai also claimed that except for woman, any prisoner can get just about anything, which includes Drugs, Liquor, Cigarettes, Bidis, etc. All that one need is enough money to grease the palms of the corrupt officials. Vijay went on to claim that almost all the officials are corrupt.

Since Constable Vijay Gawai spoke to the media, he was picked up from his house at around 7:30 pm and is made to sit in the jail without any food. He claimed that he has certain medical condition and needs to have food, yet he is denied to eat his food. He claims that all the senior officials of the prison have left the prison and he is made to sit inside the jail. Before leaving a Senior Jail Officer abused him with abusive and vulgar words at around 9 pm.
