Nagpur: If all goes well, Nagpur will be having India’s first ‘floating solar power project’ very soon. It has been proposed to install a solar power plant to cut electricity expense of the Gorewada lake plant, which filters the water coming from Pench project before it is supplied to the city. Looking at the limited space, the officials concerned are planning to install a floating project in the lake itself.
A meeting in this regard between the officials of PowerGrid and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation was held on Tuesday at the NMC headquarters, wherein the PowerGrid has presented a proposal to the NMC to install a floating solar power plant in Gorewada lake. The PowerGrid officials have reportedly given a detailed presentation on the project cost, funds required from NMC, amount to be financed, breakeven period and also as how many years the project would supply power to the plant.
Those attended the meeting included Executive Mayor Deepraj Mardikar, Leader of Opposition in NMC Tanaji Wanave, NMC Commissioner Virendra Singh, Additional Commissioner Ravindra Kumbhare, Chief Engineer Manoj Talewar, Executive Engineer (Power) Sanjay Jaiswal, Assistant Director of Town Planning department Pramod Gavande and deputy engineer Deepak Chitnis. The PowerGrid was represented by Executive Director Sanjay Garg, Manager Anurag Shrivastava and Deputy Manager Dr Vinay Senare.
The NMC Commissioner has directed Executive Engineer Sanjay Jaiswal to study the project and to take steps for its early commencement.
