Nagpur: Bhushan Namdeorao Yengade, a globally recognised food technologist, has been honoured by the BeTa Science Association, Türkiye, for his significant contributions to the global food processing sector. The recognition highlights his work in food industry market analysis, industrial strategy and global policy, and acknowledges his growing role as a practitioner of scientific diplomacy.

He is widely known for applying advanced research and analytical frameworks drawn from the petrochemical and gas industries to improve efficiency, resilience and sustainability in food supply chains.

Commending his work, Professor Sabri Öz, President of the BeTa Science Association, said that Yengade’s research provides a practical roadmap for strengthening cooperation between academia, government institutions and the private sector. “Establishing meaningful coordination across sectors remains a global challenge. Bhushan’s studies offer a structured approach to bridging these gaps and fostering collaboration,” Öz said.

Highlighting the relevance of Yengade’s work in addressing food wastage, Öz added that food processing and integrated supply chains are critical to ensuring global food security. “By connecting supply chains more effectively, wastage can be significantly reduced. His analytical models provide a foundation for moving towards a zero-waste food system,” he noted.

Yengade’s international standing has been shaped by his experience in India’s public sector, where he played a key role in evaluating and overseeing major projects under the National Mission on Food Processing. This exposure, experts say, laid the groundwork for his later work in global markets.

Dr R.T. Patil, former Director of ICAR-CIPHET and currently based in the United States, described Yengade’s professional journey as exceptional. “His transition from policy implementation in India to global scientific leadership is rare. Today, he serves as a valuable resource for emerging economies seeking to strengthen their food processing sectors,” Patil said.

In the private domain, Yengade heads Binder Technology, a firm that provides strategic advisory services to food processing companies worldwide. His work includes navigating complex regulatory environments and assessing the impact of global developments such as Brexit and the BRICS bloc on the food industry.

Tevfik Dönmez, Vice President of the BeTa Science Association and a noted industrialist, praised Yengade’s role in strengthening international cooperation. “He has emerged as a strong advocate of scientific diplomacy. His research and public engagements have helped build meaningful collaboration between India and Türkiye, facilitating knowledge and technology exchange,” Dönmez said.

Beyond Europe, Yengade has also played a significant role in shaping the food processing landscape in the Asia Pacific region. His ability to integrate technological innovation with market-oriented strategies has earned him recognition across academic and industry circles.

Professor Shalini Arya of the Institute of Chemical Technology said Yengade’s work has contributed to accelerating innovation and growth in the regional food sector. “His insights have had a lasting impact on industry practices and policy thinking,” she said.

The honour by the BeTa Science Association, observers note, reflects Yengade’s broader contribution to building a more connected, efficient and sustainable global food system—one that balances technological advancement with international cooperation.
