NAGPUR: Kotwali police have booked an UPSC-aspirant young girl and arrested her friend on the charges of cheating on Sunday. The girl had stealthily carried a mobile phone while appearing in examination and shared photocopy of the question paper with her friend, who was outside the examination hall. The girl was caught red-handed and a panic-like situation was created at the exam centre for a while.

The accused were identified as Ashwini Janardan Sarode (23), a resident of Anjanvati, Dhamangaon Railway, Amravati district; and Shubham Bhaskarrao Mundane (25), a resident of Kohle Layout, Khadgaon Road, Wadi, Nagpur.

The examination of Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) was held on Sunday at different centre. Ashwini had come to appear in the exam at Jamdar High School in Reshimbagh under the jurisdiction of Kotwali police station. As mobile phones are banned at exam centres, she hid her phone in a water bottle. At around 12 noon, she took out the phone and took some snaps of the question paper. She then shared the document with Shubham, who was outside the exam centre.

Ashwini’s act was however captured by a camera at the centre and the centre chief summoned a woman staff to conduct physical check of the girl. A mobile phone was recovered from her possession and it was found that she had shared the document with Shubham, who in return answered few questions for her.

The centre chief then informed the matter to senior officials, on whose directives Vinay Nimgaonkar (51), a resident of Samarth Nagari, Sonegaon, filed a complaint with the police. The police booked Ashwini and Shubham under relevant sections of the IPC and arrested Shubham in the case.
