Nagpur: Tension ran high in Nagpur Central Jail when the convict in German Bakery blast case Mirza Himayat Beig on Wednesday morning attacked Rajesh Davare the convict in the sensational Yug Chandak kidnapping and murder case. Rajesh Davare has been convicted and sentenced to death.

According to sources, a brawl erupted between the two convicts over an unspecified issue. The wordy duel soon took an ugly turn when the German Bakery blast accused Mirza Himayat Beig assaulted Rajesh Davare and started thrashing him. The guards and other higher authorities rushed to the spot hearing the shouts of other inmates of the jail. It is learnt that Rajesh Davare received serious head injuries and was taken to the Jail Hospital for treatment.

The Jail Superintendent Yogesh Desai was informed about the incident who immediately ordered enhancement of security outside the barracks of the inmates. Dhantoli police too were informed about the incident. A team of cops, led by PI R Mane, rushed to the Central Jail and reviewed the situation. Cops have mounted an investigation to ascertain the reason behind Mirza attacking Davare.

It is pertinent to recall that Rajesh Davare and his accomplice Arvind Singh had kidnapped and murdered Yug Chandak, son of dentist couple, on September 1, 2014. The District and Sessions Court had found them guilty and awarded death sentence. The Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court, on May 5 this year, had upheld the death sentence. Since then, both Rajesh Davare and Arvind Singh have been lodged in ‘Fansi Yard’ of Nagpur Central Jail. In the same ‘Fansi Yard’ the convict in German Bakery blast case of Pune Mirza Himayat Beig too has been lodged. One more convict, Jitendra Narayansingh Gahlot, is also spending his time in ‘Fansi Yard’ for murders of five women and two children in rural area of Pune District.

It is learnt that a heated exchange of words erupted around 10 am on Tuesday during lunch hour between Mirza Beig and Jitendra Gahlot over the issue of gallows to another convict Rakesh Manohar Kamble. Rakesh Kamble and his accomplices had kidnapped, raped and killed Kanchan Meshram of Lonara Slums in Kalmeshwar. Rakesh Kamble was awarded the noose in the case. The issue led to wordy duel between Mirza and Gahlot. Rajesh Davare reportedly intervened. However, the intervention did not go well with Mirza who hit Davare with the large spoon used for serving vegetable and caused serious injury on his head.

Dhantoli police have registered a case under Section 324 of IPC and launched an investigation into the matter.
