Nagpur: Tehsil Police in Nagpur have arrested Shailesh Dnyaneshwar Kedar (38), nephew of the notorious gangster Santosh Ambekar, along with his accomplice Khushal alias Inga Dattatraya Shende (31), in connection with a case of extortion and assault on a businessman.
According to police, Shailesh Kedar, like his uncle Ambekar, has been involved in numerous criminal cases. He is also a co-accused in the MCOCA case alongside Ambekar. The police took action based on a complaint lodged by Rishi Ashok Khanna (34), a resident of Jagnath Budhwari. Rishi owns a shop called Madhur Chemicals in Itwari.
In August 2018, Rishi borrowed Rs 30,000 from Shailesh for business purposes. Shailesh extended the loan with an interest rate of 10 percent and Rishi repaid Rs 3,000 monthly for ten months. In November 2019, Ambekar and Shailesh were charged with demanding a ransom of Rs 25 lakh, based on a complaint filed by CA Avinash Johrapurkar. Both were arrested in connection with this case. Although the matter was resolved after Shailesh was jailed, Rishi returned all borrowed money upon Shailesh’s release on bail.
However, in August 2023, Shailesh resumed harassing Rishi and demanded further payments while calculating interest on the borrowed amount. On Friday afternoon, while Rishi was at a salon near the post office for a haircut, Shailesh and Inga confronted him. They verbally abused and physically assaulted Rishi and even threatened to harm him and shut down his shop if he failed to pay Rs 30,000.
Rishi lodged a complaint with the police. The police registered a case against Shailesh and Inga under the provisions of Indian Penal Code and the Maharashtra Money-Lending (Regulation ) Act.
