Gang of five goons planning armed dacoity nabbed in Lakadganj

Nagpur: Crime Branch on Monday night foiled an imminent armed dacoity by nabbing a gang of five notorious goon including two externed criminals.

The arrested accused have been identified as Sheikh Nawabshaha Rahim Shah (20), Pritam Ashok Matey (21), both residents of Azamshaha Square, Juni Mangalwari, Sheikh Jalil alias Baba Sheikh Sabir (21), resident of Shantinagar, Pawan Tulshiram Korde (18) of Indiramata Nagar and Durgesh Nanuchand Tembhre (19) of Indiramata Nagar. Incidentally, the two accused Sheikh Nawabshaha Rahim Shah and Pritam Matey were externed for their criminal activities but still entered the city and were planning dacoity along with other three accused. Moreover, the gang of five accused was in possession of lethal arms despite Section 37(1)(3) of Maharashtra Police Act in force in view of ongoing Ganesh Visarjan. The arms were seized by the cops.

The Crime Branch sleuths acted on the inputs and surrounded the gang members assembled at behind goods godown of Itwari Railway Station around 10 pm on Monday with the intention of committing a dacoity. Even before the gang members could flee the spot, the cops nabbed them and seized lethal arms from them.

An offence under Sections 399, 402 of the IPC read with Section 4/25 of Arms Act has been registered against the accused with Lakadganj Police Station. Further probe is being carried out by PSI V K Masram.
