Nagpur:
Picture this! A well-furnished small house with a hall, bedroom and toilet, and not the least, free electricity for life! And all this for the lower income groups just at Rs 6 lakhs and 50% subsidy! Sound unbelievable? But you have to believe your ears to believe this fact as these are the specifications of ideal housing for lower income groups which none other than Nagpur MP and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari is looking optimistic about. Nagpur Municipal Corporation has already picked up survey in this direction and has started inviting online applications for the same.

Speaking at a programme in Nagpur, Gadkari hinted at ‘achche din’ for the poor. He hinted at making this dream home very much real for the economically weaker sections in the city. Reiterating the government’s aim to provide housing for all by the year 2022, Gadkari pushed the envelope further by already committing 50,000 such housing units to be erected in Nagpur during the next 5 years.
Gadkari talked high on this ambitious scheme while terming the project as close to his heart. He said that an agreement has been signed with a German bank to fund the project which would be soon accomplished.

Sharing details on the project, Gadkari said multiple housing projects would be taken up to provide shelter to the poor and homeless. The unit bears a house of 450 sq ft comprising a hall, bedroom, kitchen and toilet. It will also include a gallery. The target is to provide each unit at Rs 6 lakh. Not only this, even the plan to provide furniture and free electricity for lifetime is also underway, asserts Gadkari.

He added that a loan will be provided at 6 percent per annum with a subsidy of 50%. The project will be implemented with the assistance of local administrative bodies.
