It seems that the deaths were on the rise since five deaths took place from September 21 to 30. These included three women and two men. Of these, a 60-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man died on September 21 and 22, respectively. So far 650 persons have tested positive for H1N1. And of the 136 deaths since January, 64 patients who died belonged to city while six were from Nagpur district rural area. Nineteen of them were from other districts and 25 from other states.
Friends report that Devika, who hailed from M.P. was living alone in Nagpur since she was working in a software company here. Since last few weeks she was suffering from cold and cough, which she seemed to have taken lightly as ‘seasonal infections’. She was admitted to Care Hospital last Sunday when she was already in a critical condition. Despite the hospital’s best efforts, she passed away at 8 a.m. on Friday.

“She was a very fun loving, easy to get along with person” says Neelima Kapuria, whose restaurant Pizennia Devika visited often. “When my staff told me she was no more, I could not believe it.”

It seems when Devika had called Neelima to wish her on her birthday on 25th September she was already coughing and had a cold even then.
“Please, please be careful. Don’t neglect your health and overlook sickness symptoms thinking it is something common” pleads Neelima.

Devika was part of many social networking and Foodie groups of Nagpur. Many of them were with her through her sickness last week and are in shocked disbelief over her untimely death.
