Nagpur: The builders of Fortune Mall while displaying brazenness had repeatedly ignored the notices of the NMC-Fire Department to install safety equipment and fire installations as mentioned in the statutory norms while erecting a commercial complex.

On June 1, 2016, the authorities of NMC Fire Department have declared the Fortune Mall as Unsafe. A last notice giving one-week’s time has been granted to the Builder to adhere to the norms and install all safety measures including fire-equipments in the mall.

Failing to adhere to the notice, the authorities have decided to start with severing the water and electricity supply to the building and later seal the building. Meanwhile the Fortune Mall situated at Munje Square in Sitabuldi area is found to functioning without required clearances and safety measures.

The Fortune Mall has four floors.

  1. In the Lower Ground Floor there are 130 shops of which 4 shops are running
  2. In the Upper Ground Floor there are 126 shops of which 4 are running
  3. The First Floor is occupied by Shree Shivam
  4. Construction of an office is underway in the Second Floor.
  5. Only RCC work has been completed.

Before the construction work commenced, an application was submitted by the builder for NOC. It was specified in the application that the Lower Basement would be for Parking. The Upper level of Basement would be used as Store-rooms and installing Electric Generators etc. It was specified that there would be Ground plus four floors.

The total built-up area is 22300 square meters. The height of the building would be 18.70 meters. After the construction commenced, another NOC was given on January 11, 2000 for a period of one year. An application was moved by the builder for a revised NOC for the Height to be raised to 22 Meters. All the other spaces would be for office cum shops.

Another NOC was applied for on February 15, 2008 for the building plan of only 18.70 meters. The NMC has renewed the NOC in 2012.

However, on July 2, 2015 the officials of NMC-Fire Department had inspected the building. They found that the builder has not installed any fire equipments nor any other safety installations.

On September 1, 2015, the NMC Fire Department had issued a notice giving one month’s time for the builder to install all safety equipments and fire installations.

On May 23, 2016 the NMC Fire-Department officials inspected the building for the second time. Surprisingly the officials found that the Builder had not installed all safety equipments and fire installations as per the norms.

Irked with the lackadaisical attitude of the Builder, the NMC-Fire Depratment has declared the building unfit and unsafe for general populace.

The land belongs to Subhash Buty and J B Buty and the Developer is S K Patel. The Builders of Fortune Mall is a very reputed company called GIGCO and since they have erected many buildings previously, they should have ensured that the vital equipments are already installed in the primary building exercise.
