Nagpur: Former Judge M L Tahiliani took charge of the state’s new Lokayukta on August 24, 2015. In a ceremony organized in Rajbhavan, Governor K Vidyasagar Rao administered the oath of office to former Judge M L Tahiliani in the presence of the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Former Justice Tahiliani is a reputed name in the legal circles throughout the country.
He was the Judge in the specially constituted Special Court which was hearing the case of the 26/11 Mumbai attack. It was Justice Tahiliani who had sentenced Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Kasab. A native of Vidarbha, Justice Tahiliani has offered his valuable service in different parts of Vidarbha. M L Tahiliani had started his career as lawyer in 1975. This was followed by him being appointed as Government Prosecutor in Naxal infested Gadchiroli. Later he was appointed as Judge in the District Sessions Court. In the same year, he was promoted to Senior Sessions Judge.
From the year 2011, he rendered the valuable service as Judge in High Court. This was followed by him being appointed as Judge in the Special Court constituted to try the 26/11 Mumbai attack case.
In the last leg of his career, he was transferred to Nagpur and he was appointed as Judge in Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court. He retired from that post.
On August 24, 2015, the State Government decided to appoint him as Lokayukta and he was administered the oath of office and he has taken over the new office.
