Nagpur: With the gigantic target of planting 13 crore saplings next year under its sleeves, the Forest Department is all geared up to create a 68 lakh-strong Green Army within the next five months for accomplishing the task. The enormous target was fixed after an overwhelming public participation in this year’s 4 crore tree plantation drive.
Now, the Department is mulling to increase the number of Green Army members for achieving the target of planting 13 crore saplings next year.
At present, the Forest Department has 31.75 lakh members including 5.85 lakh individuals. The Department is now focusing to increase this number in the coming days. An array of initiatives are in the pipeline for this exercise.
The Green Army helps in strengthening Maharashtra Government’s campaign for increasing the forestation area by personal contribution and greater responsibility.
