Nagpur: As a follow-up to Nagpur Today’s first published report about rape and murder of a teen-aged school-going girl, whose dead body in half-naked condition was found by the water tank, a little away from MIHAN boundary wall behind Isasani Tekdi, on Wednesday, Sept 16, under jurisdiction of Sonegaon police station in the city, the police have arrested a bus-driver by the late evening of Wednesday, who is identified as Jivan Ajabrao Sapale (30), resident of Ekatmata Nagar.
According to police, the crime was committed on Tuesday evening, but it was detected on Wednesday when the half-naked body of the deceased girl was noticed on the spot as stated above. The dead body of the girl was bearing the marks of strangling her to death. A bag containing certain books was recovered from the spot.
Upon being informed about the dead boy lying over there, Sonegaon PI Arun Jagtap along with his team immediately reached the spot. Senior police officers such as DCP (Zone-1) Shailesh Balkawade and Ranjan Kumar Sharma (Crime) also rushed to the spot. Police, having ensured identity of the deceased, completed formalities including the ‘panchanama’ and then the body was sent for post-mortem report to be obtained from Govt Medical College and Hospital.
Police informed that the deceased’s identity was ascertained on the basis of names written on certain pages of books which were recovered from the near by lying bag. In fact, the names that were found on the books were the names of sister of the deceased. The police then traced out the sister of the deceased and, visited her house and came to know the actual name of the deceased from her sister. Immediately the family members of the deceased were brought by police to the spot and they confirmed her identity. Further enquires revealed the name of bus-driver who had taken the girl by his bus.
Sonegaongao police joined with Crime Branch came into action and arrested the bus-driver Jivan Sapale. The accused during police interrogation confessed that he had affairs with the deceased and so he took the deceased with lascivious intention to an isolated place. He had consumed liquor, he said. It was about 9 pm, the accused and the girl (deceased) picked up a quarrel over some point and the accused then having lost his temper strangled her to death. Sonegaon police is further conducting enquires in the case.
