The first ever Liver transplantation procedure of Wardha district and of entire Vidarbha outside Nagpur city is performed at AVBRH on 16 March 2023. The first Liver and 107th kidney transplantation surgery were performed for a deserving patient of diseased liver and kidney failure patient. Hospital has initiated this noble service of organ donation a long ago in 2000 and since then kidney transplantation is being done regularly but after the Liver was transplanted for the first time.
This transplantation was done through cadaveric donation received from AIIMS, Nagpur donated by Mr. Rakesh Sonttake, 24 years, Male, who was an electricician by profession and after a trauma, he was taken to AIIMS Nagpur on 11 March 2024 & declared as a brain stem dead. Relatives were consented for organ donation and Liver, Pair of Kidney, Pair of corneas were consented for donations.

Liver was donated to the 58 years male who was registered at ZTCC Nagpur at AVBRH hospital. Kidney was donated to 36 years female, from Nagpur.
AVBRH is a licensed center for Liver, Kidney & Heart transplantation & has done many donations in past supporting and helping many patients from organ failures. And saved the life of multiple patients through this noble cause.
Liver Transplant Surgery was performed by a team of surgeons led by Dr. Ravi Mohanka, Liver Transplant Surgeon, Dr. Prashantha Rao & Dr. Vinayak Nikam, , Transplant anesthetist, Dr. Ameya Panchwagh & Dr. Saurabh Kamat , Dr. Madhavi Nayak from Reliance Foundation Hospital, Mumbai. This was Supported by AVBRH Team of Surgeon & Anesthetist comprised of Dr. Chandrashekhar Mahakalkar, Dr, Raju Shinde, Dr. Sanjeev Gyanchandani, Dr. Shivani Kshirsagar Dr. Vijendra Kirnake, Medical Gastroenterologist & Anesthesiologist Dr. Vivek Chakole, Dr. Neeta Verma, Dr. Juhi Jadhav.
Kidney Transplantation was performed by Dr. Sanjay Kolte, Transplant surgeon, Dr. Abhijit Dhale, Urologist, Dr. Kapl Sejpal, Nephrologist, Dr. Ruturaj Pendharkar,
The entire process was coordinated by administrative staffs of AVBRH and Transplant Coordinators, Dr. Rupali Naik & Dr. Vitthal Shinde, Ms. Farida Hirani, Rajesh Sawwalakhe, Col. KuldeepSehgal Prajwal Bonde, Pawan Chafle, Mr. Mangesh Budhe, Mr. Bipin Mokal, Mr. Aditya Bhargava, Mrs. Alka Benjamin, Shri. Sanjay Ingle, Dr. Ranjeet. Team of Operation Theater comprised of Mrs. Archana Sarode, Mrs. Mrunal Bambode, Technician- Murali Satpute, Laxman Chaptekar, Sisters – Madhuri, Shweta, Bharti & Megha , Hasim Kolnadu, Maria Anthony has assisted and managed both the patients simultaneously.
The District & ZTCC administration including Shri. Narul Hasan, Superintendent of Police, Wardha Police, Dr, Sanjay Koltey, President ZTCC extended a great support for green corridor and transportations.
The Liver & kidney transplant surgery was successfully conducted under able guidance of Hon. Trustee DMIHER Shri. Sagarji Meghe, Hon. Vice chancellor of DMIHER Dr. Lalit BhushanWaghmare, Dr. Anup Marar, CEO of the Hospitals DMIHER, OSD Dr. Abhyuday Meghe and CMS Dr. Chandrashekhar Mahakalkar. The entire team of AVBRH and DMIHER expressed the sincere gratitude towards the donor and his relatives who saved the life the three persons and a benchmark of sacrifice is set in the society through this donation.
