FDA seizes stock of sub-standard sauce, chili powder, common salt from Butibori firm

Acting on secret inputs, officials of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) on Tuesday raided a firm in Butibori and seized a stock of sub-standard chili powder, sauce and salt collectively worth Rs 1.23 lakh.

The Food Safety Officers Sheetal Deshpande and Anand Mahajan with their team raided Butibori-based M/s Nature Rich Food and found that poor quality of sauce was being produced in violation of Food Safety and Standards Act. The firm was also using common salt despite ban on the use of common salt in preparing food items. The FDA team took samples of the food items for analysis and seized 652 kg of sauce, 698 kg of chili powder and 5000 kg of common salt collectively worth Rs 1.23 lakh. The samples have been sent to Food Testing Laboratory for analysis.

The owner of M/s Nature Rich Food Umesh Jagwani has been booked under Food Safety and Standards Act 2006. Further probe is underway.

The action was initiated under the directives of Joint Commissioner (Food) Shashikant Kekre and Assistant Commissioner (Food) Motiram Pawar.
