Nagpur:
Three tricksters, posing as policemen, robbed gold ornaments worth over Rs 1.50 lakh from two elderly women in Sadar and Sitabuldi areas on Monday morning.

In the first incident, Kausalya Mangalram Sharma (67), a resident of HouseNo.621, near Sadar Police Post, Golecha Marg, was on a morning walk. Around 8.15 am, three men accosted her near Chhoti Masjid, near Bank of Maharashtra’s ATM Centre. Posing as policemen, they asked Kausalya Sharma to remove the gold bangles worth Rs 75,000 worn by her as looting taking place in the area and hence it was unsafe to wear them in public. Scared by the words, Kausalya removed the bangles and was putting in her bag. The bogus cops, on the pretext of helping her, took the valuables in their possession and fled the spot after diverting her attention.

Sadar Police registered a case under Sections 170, 420 and 34 of the IPC and launched a search of the fake cops.
In the similar incident that took place in Sitabuldi Police Station area, probably the same three-member gang of fake cops tricked and robbed one more woman of her gold ornaments worth over Rs 75,000 near Dharampeth High School. A resident of Plot No. 101, The Park Residency, near Hindu Dnyanpeeth Convent, Kunda Madhukar Lele (78) was returning home from her daughter’s house. One of the tricksters stopped Kunda Lele posing as a policeman. He told her that his officer was calling her. He then took her to two of his accomplices standing on the roadside. One of them told her that a fine of Rs 2,000 would be imposed on her for wearing the ornaments. Presuming them to be policemen, she removed her gold bangles and gold chain and kept them in a bag. The conmen distracted her attention and took away the ornaments from her bag. On the basis of a complaint lodged by Kunda Lele, Sitabuldi Police registered a case under Sections 170, 419, 420 and 34 of the IPC.
