In a major but elusive success, Ajni police have nabbed an externed criminal involved in a series of chain-snatching incidents and recovered gold booty, three two-wheelers collectively worth Rs 4.10 lakh from his possession. With the arrest, the cops cracked nine cases of chain-snatching committed in different areas of the city.

The painstaking investigation by Ajni police started when a Narendra Nagar-based woman was robbed of her gold chain on 25.7.2016 morning when she was fetching milk from milkman. A moped-borne goon had relieved the woman of her gold stuff. Ajni cops at time had registered a case under Section 392 and launched a search to nab the offender.

During the investigation of this incident and other such cases, the Ajni cops came to know the hand of a notorious criminal. Description by victims had also confirmed the doubts of cops and they went on a trail of the goon – Sachin Narhari Peshve (32), resident of Shrikrishna Nagar in Hudkeshwar area. After detailed information regarding whereabouts of the externed criminal, the trail took cops to a village in Yavatmal district. After a trap, Sachin was nabbed and was brought to Ajni Police Station. After a sustained interrogation, the goon confessed his hand in nine chain-snatching incidents including four in Ajni jurisdiction, two in Sonegaon, one each in Pratapnagar, Nandanvan, and Hudkeshwar jurisdictions.

The cops also recovered 118 grams of gold booty worth Rs 3.25 lakh and three two-wheelers used by Sachin in committing the crime. The two-wheelers seized include Suzuki Access moped (MH-31/EL 6616), Honda Activa (MH-49/W 1853) and Bajaj Discover (MH-40/R 8226) collectively worth Rs 85,000. The externed criminal was dodging the cops, perpetrating the crime and was returning to his hide out in Yavatmal district.

The task was carried out by Senior PI S V Pawar, PI J J Patil, API S K Dhobe, constables Nandkishore Hinge, Anil Brahmankar, naik police constable Yogesh, Prashant, Manoj, Prashant Sonulkar, Bhagwati Thakur and Manoj Tekam under the guidance of DCP Zone-4 Shridhar, ACP Rathod.
