6 dead, 18 injured in explosion at Wardha’s Army depot

Wardha: At least 6 people were killed and 18 were injured in in a massive explosion at Pulgaon-based Central Ammunition Depot (CAD) in Wardha district, some 120 kms from Nagpur this morning.

PRO Nagpur has confirmed that the tragedy occurred when the employees of the depot were disposing unused explosives in a military firing range area of Pulgaon.

Reports said that the explosion took place while officials were defusing a bomb near Sonai village in Dewali town. The explosion unleashed panic among the people residing in the area. The explosions left the entire area in chaos as people started running here and there.

Few media reports claimed that the accident took place during the disposing of explosives at Pulgaon firing range.
Similar tragedy struck the range in 2016 when around 17 jawans lost their lives.

It may be mentioned that the depot, located 115 kms off here, is the largest Arms Depot in Asia. Spread in 7000 acres of land, this depot boasts of manufacturing the largest numbers of arms and ammunition.
