Escaped convict nabbed by Crime Branch after 1-km hot pursuit

The city of Nagpur on Tuesday night witnessed a hot chase mounted by sleuths of Crime Branch Unit 3 to nab a burglary convict who escaped from Super Speciality Hospital where he was brought for kidney stone treatment. The convict was finally netted after one kilometer of chase.

The convict Omprakash Rangnath Khandve (28) of Buldhana, a notorious burglar, was lodged in Wardha Jail. On Tuesday (February 7), Omprakash was brought to city’s Super Speciality Hospital for treatment of kidney stone by two policemen of Wardha. After the treatment, the convict was taken to Ganeshpeth Bus Stand to be taken to Wardha Jail.

However, the handcuffed convict Omprakash managed to give a slip to the two cops and escaped. The two foxed policemen immediately alerted Police Control Room that flashed a wireless message about the escape of the convict. Sleuths of Crime Branch Unit 3 also received the wireless message and they embarked on a trail of the elusive convict. The cops got a tip-off that a person of specific description was spotted at Netaji Flower Market in Sitabuldi around 8 pm. Acting on the input swiftly, the Crime Branch sleuths reached there and surrounded the convict.

However, seeing the cops approaching him, Omprakash anyhow managed to flee the spot triggering a hot pursuit by the policemen. Finally, the escaped convict was nabbed after a one kilometer chase. He was handed over to Ganeshpeth Police for further course of action.

The task was accomplished by the team of Crime Branch Unit comprising API Dnyaneshwar Bhedodkar, constables Shailesh Thawre, Suresh Hingnekar, Shatrughna Kadu, Anil Dubey, Rajesh Kshirsagar, NPCs Manish Bhonsale, Atul Davande, Shyam Kadu, and Driver Sharif.
