Drugs worth over Rs 2 crore destroyed by Amravati Police in major crackdown

Amravati: In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Amravati Police Commissionerate destroyed a large quantity of seized drugs worth over Rs 2.03 crore under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 on May 2, 2026.

The destroyed contraband included 368.43 kg of ganja, 1.551 kg of charas, and 1.253 kg of MD drugs, which were linked to 58 registered cases across multiple police stations.

The destruction process was carried out at Maharashtra Enviro Power Limited facility located in Butibori MIDC in Nagpur, using an authorised incinerator after obtaining all necessary permissions.

The cases were registered across several police stations, including Nagpuri Gate (16 cases), Badnera (13), Gadge Nagar (11), Kholapuri Gate (3), Nandgaon Peth (6), Frezarpura (4), Walgaon (2), City Kotwali (2), and Rajapeth (1). Officials confirmed that the destruction was undertaken only after completion of all court procedures.

A Drug Disposal Committee was constituted under the chairmanship of Police Commissioner Rakesh Ola, with Deputy Commissioners Shyam Ghughe and Ramesh Dhumal as members. Necessary approvals were obtained from the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board before carrying out the procedure.

The entire operation was conducted in the presence of senior police officials, representatives from the State Excise Department, company officials, panch witnesses, and police personnel, ensuring transparency and compliance with legal norms.
