Nagpur: In a major crackdown on the growing drug network in Nagpur, police launched an aggressive drive under ‘Operation Thunder’, resulting in the arrest of two suspected drug peddlers with MD (Mephedrone) drugs in the jurisdiction of Pachpaoli Police Station.
According to police sources, acting on specific intelligence inputs, a team from the Pachpaoli police laid a trap on Saturday afternoon near Ambedkar Garden, close to the Kolkata railway line in the Vaishali Nagar area.
During surveillance, the police noticed two individuals behaving suspiciously in the area. They were detained and questioned. The suspects were later identified as Sheikh Adil Sheikh Rashid and Ashish Ramteke.
A personal search of the accused led to the recovery of two zip-lock pouches containing 12.49 grams of MD powder, commonly known as Mephedrone. Police said the seized contraband is valued at approximately ₹94,720 in the illegal drug market.
Both accused have been booked under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act) and placed under arrest.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector Baburao Raut.
Police said further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain of the MD drugs and identify other members involved in the narcotics network. Authorities have indicated that similar intensified drives will continue to dismantle the expanding drug trade in Nagpur.
