Nagpur Today.

The extravaganza and magnificence of Khasdar Mahotsav left an indelible impression on the hearts of all art connoisseurs and commoners of Nagpur, as the curtains came down on the city’s most cherished festival. And the show packed the punch with the brilliant performance of none other than nation’s original dreamgirl, Bollywood actor, dancer and Member of Parliament Hema Malini. The dream girl regaled the audience as she presented her dance as Draupadi at the closing ceremony of ‘Khasdar Mahautsav’ held at Ishwerchand Deshmukh college ground. More than 10,000 audience witnessed the show.

Whole skit and dance was based on novel ‘Yjnaseni’ by Odiya writer Pratibha Ray and it was conceptualized by Hema herself. The ballad was created to give an insight into the minds and thoughts of Draupadi, one of the strongest character of epic Mahabharata.

Songs and music were written and composed by the late Ravindra Jain.

Using audio visual aids to create magnificence of palaces and serene settings of the forests, the presentation was further enriched by graceful movements of one of senior actresses from Bollywood.

A tad filmy because of the simple Hindi used in the songs and the opulent mountaining, the play was more contemporary than classical. Highlights of the drama remain the conversations between Draupadi and Krishna, very endearingly played by Marathi actor Rajesh Shingarpure, where he accepts whatever Krishna brings to her life but also wonders what could be the true reasons behind this action.
