Dr. Dilip Gode Elected unopposed for the post of President of Association of Surgeons of India (ASI)

Nagpur: Dr Dilip Gode, a well-known General & pioneer laparoscopic surgeon from Nagpur has been elected as the President of Association of Surgeons of India. It has happened for the first time in last 50 yrs that the President has been elected unopposed. Association of the surgeons of India is the old body of Surgeons founded in 1938 & is one of the largest associations in the world having more than 20,000 active members.

Dr Dilip Gode till recently was the Vice Chancellor of Datta Meghe Institute of Medical sciences (Deemed University), Wardha & has been known for his uprightness & discipline. It was during his tenure that the University got MHRD’s ‘A’ grade & also were reaccredited by NAAC in to A grade for the second time. During his tenure many new academic programs & improvement in teaching, learning & evaluation methods were launched.

He was also the President of association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India (AMASI) for two years & launched many innovative academic programs in the association.

He plans to introduce many academic programs in ASI for practicing surgeons similarly for the teaching faculties in Medical colleges. Teaching programs for post graduate students shall be strengthen & similarly some teaching program shall be started in Medical colleges freely for undergraduates where national faculties shall actually teach these medical students. Dr Gode believes that associations have a major role to play in medical education.

Dr Dilip Gode shall take over as the president this year at Jaipur in December & shall be at the helm of the affairs of the ASI for one year 2018. Maharashtra state chapter has hailed Dr Gode’s victory in the election.
