Dhantoli police have booked a doctor couple on the charges of causing death by negligence. The two doctors have allegedly been held responsible for the death of a 15-year old girl while she was undergoing treatment for her mental illness.

According to police and reports, 15-year old girl Kalyani Deepjyoti Tavre, resident of Adhyapak Nagar, Manewada, Nagpur was undergoing treatment at Parivartan Hospital for mental illness. The Hospital, situated at Plot No. 7, Hindustan Colony, Wardha Road, Nagpur, is run by Dr. Vikas Bhute and Dr Preeti Bhute. However, during the course of treatment, the mental patient Kalyani Tavre, went to the fourth floor of the Hospital and jumped from there and came crashing down to the ground around 8 am on 20.11.2014. The critically injured Kalyani was taken to Suretech Hospital but she succumbed to her injuries around 8.20 am on 21.11.2014. At that time, Dhantoli police had registered a case of accidental death.

However, a detailed probe revealed that the accused Dr Vikas Bhute and Dr Preeti Bhute had not deployed adequate attendants to take care of Kalyani despite her severe mental condition. Police also found the windows of under-construction Hospital building without grills or glass. Moreover, no other extra measures were undertaken to take care of chronically mentally ill Kalyani which allegedly resulted in the 15-year old patient jumping from the open window to the fatal crash.

Dhantoli API Karande, based on the detailed investigation and a complaint filed by Kalyani’s father Deepjyoti Ashok Tavre, booked Dr Vikas Bhute and Dr Preeti Bhute under Section 304(A) of the IPC (causing death by negligence) and probing the matter further.
