Dispute over eating and selling meat sparks group clash in Kamptee

Nagpur: A dispute over consuming and selling meat sparked clashes between two groups in Kamptee. The clash, on Tuesday, left many injured and arrest of at least eight persons.

The arrested accused have been identified as Madhukar Mahajan, Manoj Mahajan, Uttam Mahajan, Hemraj Sharma, Umashankar Shukla, Mohan Thakur and his two nephews. In his complaint to Kamptee police, Mohan Thakur said that he was returning home from his Petrol Pump, situated at Durga Square. While returning, one of the accused Hemraj Sharma started a wordy duel over the issue of eating and selling mutton.

Soon, the wordy duel turned into a fighting between Mohan and Hemraj. However, after sometime, Hemraj himself and other accused Madhukar Mahajan, Manoj Mahajan, Uttam Mahajan attacked Mohan Thakur, his friend Umashankar Shukla and two nephews with lethal weapons. After the attack, the four accused fled the scene. Based on Mohan Thakur’s complaint, police arrested Hemraj Sharma,  Madhukar Mahajan, Manoj Mahajan, and Uttam Mahajan.

In the meanwhile, acting on a counter complaint filed by Madhukar Mahajan, cops took Mohan Thakur, his friend Umashankar Shukla and two nephews into custody. Madhukar told police that when Hemraj Sharma was going to his home, the accused Mohan Thakur, Umashankar Shukla and two nephews came to his shop and started thrashing him severely. When Mahajan brothers tried to intervene, the four accused turned their anger towards them and beat them up too. The accused Mohan Thakur, Umashankar Shukla and two nephews also smashed glasses of vehicles parked nearby.

Based on the complaint, the four accused Mohan Thakur, Umashankar Shukla and his two nephews were also booked under relevant IPC sections and arrested. Further probe is underway.
