Nagpur: The slipshod affairs being run in Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) have again come to the fore. If sources are to be believed, a reputed builder is being “saved” of a punitive action despite construction of an “extra top floor” of a multi-storied building in posh Dharampeth area of the city. The mega scheme is being constructed by the Dhavan Group of Builders. The builder has allegedly dumped the sanctioned map and constructed an extra floor of the huge building, said the sources and added that the ‘extra floor’ exposed the connivance of some NMC babus and a Ruling Party Corporator with the builder obviously for some “extra bounty.”
According to sources, a relative of the Ruling Party Corporator, who himself was a Corporator, played a key role in providing Dhavan Group the prime land at Zenda Chowk in Dharampeth area for construction of the gigantic building.
Sources further said the Group is already in the ‘list of bad builders.’ The extra floor in a huge building in Ramnagar area is already in the news. A disaster in a Civil Lines building in which two labourers were reportedly killed is talk of the town. And when the Dhavan Group grabbed the land at Zenda Chown in Dharampeth it ‘ventured out’ to construct extra floor in the mega scheme by ‘tearing apart’ the sanctioned map. But the rivals of the Corporator blew the lid off and brought the “extra floor’ to the notice of concerned department of NMC. The subsequent probe found the ‘extra’ fact true and the file was sent to the Ward Officer Rajesh Karade for further course of action.
Surprisingly, sources further said, the Ward Officer Karade has been found sitting over the file since the past one month or so obviously for some “weighty and bountiful reasons.” According to rules and regulations the Dhavan Group of Builders should have been issued notice for the illegal extra floor based on the facts and figures of the probe report. But the Ward Officer is allegedly hesitating to sign the necessary papers and thereby letting the builder scot-free, claimed the sources.
The flip-flop on the part of NMC babus rather cracking the whip on the erring builder has again exposed the dubious affairs being run in the civic body and the shady role of the Ruling Corporator’s relative who once himself was a Corporator, sources said.
