Deolapar police stop Bolero van, seize 7 cows, driver arrested

Nagpur: Deolapar police of Nagpur Rural on Wednesday arrested a man who was found illegally transporting seven cows in a Bolero pick up van cruelly. Cops have seized the cattle worth Rs 65,000 and the car worth Rs 6 lakh from the arrested accused.

A team of Deolapar police led by API Suresh Mattami was on patrol duty on Wednesday night. The team received a tip off that a herd of cattle is being transported in a Bolero pick up van (MH-31/DS 4726) from Madhya Pradesh. The van was going towards Nagpur.

Acting on the tip off, the police team effected a nakabandi opposite Deolapar Police Station on National Highway No. 7 and signalled the speeding Bolero van to stop. However, the driver of the van namely Narendra Manik Belekar (30), resident of Banora, Mouda Tehsil, instead of stopping his vehicle raced it towards Nagpur direction. The cops chased and stopped the van near Deolapar Rural Hospital. Inspection of the van led to a herd of seven cows cramped in the van cruelly. Cops immediately arrested the accused driver Narendra Belekar and seized the cows, Bolero van collectively worth Rs 6.65 lakh. The bovines were most probably being taken for slaughter.

The arrested accused was booked under Sections 11(1)(G)(D)(C) of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act read with Section 184 of Motor Vehicles Act.

The police team comprised of sepoys Sachin Tekade, Kuldeep Ahoke, driver NPC Mithilesh Pande apart from API Suresh Mattami.
