Dense fog in North India cripples rail traffic in Nagpur, passengers stranded

Nagpur: The New Year travel plans of many passengers was thrown out of gear as dense fog in North India has paralysed Rail traffic in Nagpur and other parts. Trains are either diverted or cancelled. Dozens of trains were running late enormously putting the passengers on the edge.

On Wednesday, 23 trains passing through Nagpur were running late by hours while three trains were cancelled. The cancelled trains were 22885 Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Tatanagar Express, 51829 Nagpur-Itarsi Express, and 51286 Nagpur-Bhusawal Passenger. Nizamuddin-Chennai Express was running 17 hours late, Gondwana Express 16 hours, Chhattisgarh Express 15.15 hours, Raptisagar Express 15 hours, and other major trains were running late. Hundreds of passengers, some in the chilly night, were stranded at Nagpur Railway Station. The waiting rooms were full to the brim.

Many passengers were seen rushing to the office of Deputy Station Master and seeking permission to travel by other trains rather than their pre-determined trains.

The fogey conditions have hit the rail traffic in various railway zones — Northern, East Central, North Eastern, North Central, West Central, North Eastern, North Central, West Central, North East Frontier, North Western, and Eastern in the New Year.

Railways has started cancelling trains expecting weather disturbance, throwing new year travel plans of many passengers off gear.
