Cricket betting racket busted in Bajeria house, owner booked

Nagpur: Acting on tip-off, Ganeshpeth police on Saturday night raided a house in Bajeria locality and busted a cricket betting racket being operated by the owner of the house.

Ganeshpeth Senior Police Inspector Sunil Gangurde on Saturday night received secret inputs that a person named Rakesh Khamele, resident of Bajeria Loharpura, behind Arya Samaj Mandir, was operating cricket betting racket from first floor of his residence. Acting on the information, Senior PI Gangurde formed a squad and raided the house.

The raiding cops found the accused Rakesh Indalsingh Khamele (51) accepting bets on IPL 20-20 cricket match being played between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Cops booked the accused Rakesh Khamele under Prevention of Gambling Act and seized an LED TV, set top box, remote, mobile phone, mobile power back, and other material worth Rs 59,000 and cash Rs 4000.

The raid action was taken by Senior PI Sunil Gangurde, PSI A P Atram, NPCs Anand Wankhede, Ajay Giradkar, Amit Satpute, Sharad Chambhare, Ashish Bahal, Woman Police Sepoy Bhagyashri under the guidance of DCP Zone 3 Rahul Maknikar and ACP (Kotwali) Rajratan Bansod.
