CP plea to new year revellers, refrain from drunken driving

Nagpur: To reduce and avoid fatal accidents by 50 per cent in the New Year 2018 and also follow noise control rules, Commissioner of Police, Dr K Venkatesham said, the Nagpur police have planned a massive drive against the drunken driving which will begin at 10 pm on Dec 31 till early hours of 1 Jan 2018, the new year.

The cops will be taking help of CCTV cameras of Smart City Project with recording capacity of 15 days and also PA system at 52 places. There will be many check points and latest Breath Analyzers will be utilised.

The commissioner further said, during the previous New Year celebrations they had built a database of about 50,000 persons indulging in traffic violations, especially drunken driving. Now he has appealed to the New Year revellers to refrain from drunken driving and ensure their own safety as well as the safety of all others.

He further said that in 2017 with people’s participation they had 27 per cent less fatal accidents as compared to average of 4.75. However, he said, there is a lot more to be done.
