Nagpur: Acting on a tip off, Dhantoli police intercepted a tipper truck and seized a huge stock of liquor in the wee hours of Wednesday. The seized liquor stock is worth Rs 5.45 lakh. The tipper truck, worth Rs 16.50 lakh, has also been seized.
Dhantoli police received secret information around 1 am on Wednesday that a tipper truck (Mh-31/CQ 2629) is transporting a huge stock of liquor comprising 197 cartons of country liquor worth Rs 5.12 and 5 cartons of IB wine worth Rs 33,600. Cops further received information that the tipper truck was parked in front of Bal Bharti office near Dhantoli Garden. Acting swiftly, a team of cops stopped the truck but taking advantage of darkness the driver fled the spot. Later the team searched the truck and found the stock of liquor being transported illegally. The cops seized the truck worth Rs 16.50 lakh.
An offence under Sections 65(A)(D), 83(B) of Maharashtra Prohibition Act has been registered. Cops are searching for the absconding truck driver and also probing as to whom the stock of liquor belonged and from where it was loaded.
The task was carried out by Senior Police Inspector Dinesh Shende, PSI A Kevdatkar, ASI Tiwari, constable Pandhari, NPC Manoj, Sepoys Rajesh, Gopal, Hemraj under the guidance of DCP Zone 2 Chinmay Pandit.
