Nagpur: Acting on secret information, the Social Security Branch (SSB) of city police raided the Roof 9 Family Restro Lounge at Coffee House Square, Dharampeth. The raiding cops found the customers being served with hookah. Police rounded up the owners of the restro. However, a number of customers managed to escape from the spot during the police raid.
According to police, the accused owners Sameer Sharma (38) and Lucky Jaiswal, both residents of Dharampeth, were booked by the police. The SSB team raided Roof 9 on Monday night and found some customers enjoying hookah there. The late night raid took the owners and customers by surprise. The raid panicked the customers and some of them managed to escape from the restro. The accused Sharma and Jaiswal were detained. The police have seized hookah pots, tobacco, music system, mobile phones, tables, chairs collectively worth Rs 1.33 lakh during the raid.
An offence under Sections 4(K), 21 (K) of Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) was registered against the accused at Sitabuldi Police Station.
The raid was conducted under the guidance of Addl Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sunil Fulari, DCP (Detection) Gajanan Rajmane by PI Trupti Sonwane, PSI Autl Ingole,Woman PSIs Smita Sonwane, Laxmi Tambuskar and team including Anil Ambade, Chetan Gedam, Sandip Changole, Bhushan Zade, Manish Ramteke, Ajay Paunikar, Sudhir Tiwari, Reena Jaurkar, Sujata Patil, Kumidini Meshram and others.
