TB Ward Rape Case Accused Nitish Anil Jaiswal alias Sonu Gupta
Nagpur:
Taking a severe beating over rape of a 12-year old girl at a secluded place in TB Ward area, the Crime Branch of city police made headway in the sensational incident and arrested the accused rapist within 24 hours of the crime. The accused has been identified as Nitish Anil Jaiswal alias Sonu Gupta (25), resident of Qtr No. 6/2, Rambagh Colony in Imambada jurisdiction.
Addressing a press conference, the Commissioner of Police S P Yadav said the arrest of the accused was possible after a painstaking investigation that included the traditional method, analysis of CDR, CCTV footage, phone, Facebook account of the accused as well as other suspects.

Notably, the 12-year old girl was raped by an unidentified person at a deserted quarter of TB Ward area on Wednesday night. The heinous crime sparked tension across the nearby localities and the enraged residents had demanded immediate arrest of the offender.

The Commissioner of Police further said that the Imambada cops, after registering a case under Sections 363, 366(A), 376(2)(I)(J) of the IPC read with Sub-Sections 4, 6, 8 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012, mounted a massive hunt to apprehend the culprit. However, considering the seriousness of the crime and the widespread criticism of police, the case was handed over to the Crime Branch. Subsequently, DCP Zone-4 (Crime Branch), Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), Additional Commissioner of Police (South/North), ACP and he himself visited the spot and interrogated the victimized girl, the complainant relative and others for any clue. After the initial investigation, the cops mounted a manhunt for the suspect(s) in the atrocious crime and detained several suspects within hours. During the sustained interrogation of the accused rapist Nitish Anil Jaiswal alias Sonu Gupta spilled the beans and confessed the crime. But before detaining the suspects, the Crime Branch sleuths scanned the analysis of CDR, CCTV footage, phone, Facebook account of the accused as well as other suspects, the top cop said.

The accused Nitish Jaiswal alias Sonu Gupta, after committing the horrific crime, “cleverly” switched off his mobile phone with the intention of hiding his whereabouts. But this cleverness of the accused turned out to be his folly as cops suspected a foul play as well as his “certain” role in the crime. After enquiry with the residents of the area and scanning of the CCTV footage from the Medical College Square to a wide area, the cops zeroed in on the suspect. Initially, the accused Nitish Jaiswal alias Sonu Gupta denied his role in the crime but later confessed the offence. The moment he confessed, the accused was placed under arrest within 24 hours of the crime. Further probe is underway. The accused originally hailed from Wardha District and was working as electrician.

The successful task was carried out by the PSI Sachin Lule, Head Constables Battulal Pande, and NPC Prakash Wankhede after the painstaking investigations.

Other police officials present at the press conference, apart from Commissioner of Police, include Joint CP Santosh Rastogi, Additional CP Dr Suhas Varke, DCP (Crime) Ranjan Sharma, DCP Zone-4 Shridhar, and others.
