Nagpur: Cops deployed on Morcha point at Bichua Road (from Morris College T-point to Manas Chowk) found it difficult to manage the sudden violent action followed by suicide bid by some individuals who were very disturbed by the apathy being shown to them by the government. However, the presence of mind foiled the self-immolation attempt of the disturbed individuals.

The Divyangs who were protesting under the banner “Vidarbha Viklang Sangarsha Samiti” were sitting on tri-cycle for their protest. They claimed that they have been sitting in the spot for the past five days but no official or concerned Minister visited them to even listen to their grievances. The cops tried to calm them since they were indulging in anti-state sloganeering. Suddenly one lady and two men suddenly became violent and assaulted the cops. The cops trying to control them received blows from them. The lady Divyang identified as Usha Lambat aged 53 years picked up a bottle of kerosene oil (which they were using to light a fire and cook their meals) and poured on herself. Two other Divyangs identified as Dinesh Yadav aged 30 years and Raj Singh aged 30 years too picked up another bottle of kerosene and poured onto their hand on which they had tied cloth.

However, alert cops from Sitabuldi Police Station and other cops deployed on the spot snatched the kerosene bottles from them. In the process, the cops were also drenched in kerosene. In-Charge of Sitabuldi Police Station Senior Police Inspector Bandiwar and Woman Police Constable Kavita Yadav were drenched in kerosene. Another cop of Detective Branch of Sitabuldi Police Station Mishra too was drenched in kerosene. The lady divyang Usha Lambat then became violent. They started hurling vessels (Ganji), plates and lids at the cops. Somehow the women police constables dragged the lady divyang Usha Lambat to a police van. The injured divyang was rushed to the ambulance which arrived soon at the spot.

These Divyangs who were protesting near the Morcha point were demanding 200 square feet land on all the commercial roads for self employment. They were also demanding subsidy for building houses and free education for their children. They also want that the handicapped compensation amount given under Sanjay Gandhi Scheme be hiked from Rs 600 to Rs 5000/- along with Handicapped pension.

After the cops request, Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule arrived at the spot and received their memorandum.

Meanwhile some other Divyangs who too were protested under the banner of Rashtriya Viklang Kalyan Sanstha, Nagpur were given an opportunity to present their memorandum and they went to present their grievances to meet Cabinet Minister for Social Justice & Special Assistance Rajkumar Sudamji Badole. Rajkumar Badole gave a patient hearing to the Divyangs. The Minister assured of meeting four out of 18 demands of the Divyangs including 75% waiver of all domestic taxes, teachers of Apang Shala to be given 24 years time-bound promotions, permission to sell goods on running trains for handicapped persons and free allocation of 200 square feet land on all commercial roads for self employment.
